Chinese Polyester Staple Fiber Shipments Analysis

Polyester staple fiber exports during February amounted to 51,144 tons, tumbling 35.43% from the previous month and 22.17% y-o-y.

There was price hike in January-end and mid-March, which risked China’s polyester staple fiber seriously on global competitive markets.

Anti-dumping investigation against Chinese polyester staple fiber in Pakistan, caused drop in sales due to 2.82% to 11.51% amended tariffs. As a result there was slowdown in exports by 59.25% in February.

Polyester staple fiber shipments during the first two months of 2016 reduced by 13.29%, to 130,348 tons YoY Change.

Exports to the US, the top destination, were up a mere 1.62% on an annual basis. And sales on the other main markets, such as India, Turkey and Russia, also dropped. Vietnam was the only country where Chinese exports posted a y-o-y surge (54.28%), while the nation’s textile industry has taken off.
